February Calendar

In the Classroom

February should be a month full of fun and learning.  We will start out the month learning about fairytales.  We will conclude the week by attending the play, “the Frog Prince” at the Kirkland Performing Arts Center.   We will meet at school as usual, then walk over to the theater.  We will then walk back to school after the performance and finish our day there.  We will continue to practice our letters and sounds and cutting things out.  We should have some fun with transforming our classroom into a rain forest, too.  We will talk about our feelings-love and friendship in particular- and try to be a good friend.   We will have a Valentine’s Day Party on the 14th and the kids are invited to bring Valentine cards for all of the class.  It seems to work best if they sign the cards, but don’t specifically address it.  That way they can easily pass the cards out themselves without needing to find every other child’s name.  I will put up a sign-up sheet for party items to bring.

Circle Time
In circle time we will keep on practicing appropriate behavior by listening and speaking at appropriate times and remembering to raise our hands.  We will talk about real and make-believe stories and characters in a story.  We will also continue to practice counting and learning the months and days of the week.

At Home
This probably sounds like a broken record, but keep on reading and practicing writing their names.  Signing Valentine cards is a really good way to have them practice their name.  You could have your child cut out Valentine hearts to decorate or make cookies with you.  It is good cutting and measuring/number practice.

Other Reminders
This month we will not have school the week of Feb. 20-24th for Mid-Winter Break.  I hope it coincides with your older children’s break and that you are able to have some fun family time. Also, make sure you get in plenty of hugs and snuggles because your kids grow up really fast and they are wonderful little people!
