In the Classroom
This month our themes focus on spring flowers, our moms and dads, outdoor good weather activities like going to the beach and camping, sea creatures and getting ready for kindergarten. We will be celebrating summer birthdays on the last day of class. If you want to have a special day for your child that has a summer birthday before then, let me know soon because we will run out of days before you know it. Please note we are having the moms (or a special someone) come for Mother’s Day Tea. This is meant to be a time for you to have your child’s undivided attention, so please try to get childcare for any siblings. If you are unable to get a babysitter, come anyway. You being here is the most important thing.
Circle Time
We will continue to practice sitting appropriately and attentively at circle and raising our hands if we have something to say. This is the number one thing kindergarten teachers ask us to work on, along with lining up quietly.
At Home
We are finally getting some sunshine, so go outside. The kids love the fresh air and activity and there is so much to see. Also, continue to have the kids write their name, letters and numbers. They can write with soap in the bathtub or in the suds on the side of the car that is being washed, chalk or water on the sidewalk or even shape letters with cookie dough. But most of all, enjoy all the cute and thoughtful things they say.
Field Trip Info
On Monday, May 17th a school bus and driver will be coming to talk about bus safety and take us for a ride. Mrs. Sullivan will be attaching a permission form for your child to be able to ride the bus. It is so nice of Lake Washington School District to come to us for this experience.
Some Final Thoughts
It’s hard to believe we have gone through a whole year of learning and growth. We have learned all the upper case letters and their sounds. We can recognize and write numbers. We know the days of the week and the months. We know the colors, shapes and can write our names legibly. Our vocabulary has probably doubled and we can sit attentively in a circle, taking our turn, asking pertinent questions and making appropriate comments (Most of the time. We need to save some things for kindergarten.) Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Lisa and I want you to know that you and your children have been a joy and a blessing to us. We are confident that they will have much success in their school settings next year! Please enjoy the summer and take advantage of your time together as a family because it goes so very quickly.
